How To Freeze Cottage Cheese

You will never freeze your cottage cheese a different way again! Learn how to freeze full fat cottage cheese the correct way to ensure optimal results.

Equipment

  • quart freezer ziploc bags (the number of bags needed is dependent on how much cottage cheese you plan to freeze)
  • 1 large one gallon freezer bag
  • 1 spoon

Ingredients
  

  • full fat cottage cheese

Instructions
 

  • Label a one quart freezer safe ziploc bag with the date.
  • Place ½ cup full fat cottage cheese in the ziploc bag and spread it out into a thin layer across the bottom of the bag.
  • Squeeze out the excess air and securely close the bag.
  • Wrap any excess bag around the cottage cheese for added protection from freezer burn.
  • Repeat the above steps until you have used all of the cottage cheese.
  • Place the small cottage cheese ziploc bags in a single layer inside a one gallon ziploc bag and close the bag securely.
  • Place flat in the freezer for 3-6 months.
  • When you are ready to use the cottage cheese, place it in the refrigerator to thaw for up to 24 hours.
  • Once defrosted, smell the cottage cheese to make sure it has not soured or gone bad.
  • Stir the cottage cheese before using in recipes.
  • Use the cottage cheese in appropriate frozen, blended, or baked recipes within 24 hours of defrosting.

Notes

It is not recommended to eat frozen cottage cheese by itself after it has been defrosted.  Instead, use it in baked recipes, frozen recipes, or blended drinks for best results. 
For best results only freeze full fat cottage cheese.  Lower fat cottage cheese can be used however results are usually suboptimal.
