    Cost

This project cost me $0 as I had all materials and scrap wood on hand. Here’s the breakdown if you needed to buy all of the supplies.

    • black paint $1
    • white pain $1
    • foam paint brush $1 (from Dollar Tree)
    • rafia or twine $1 (from Dollar Tree)
    • googly eyeballs $1 (from Dollar Tree)
    • 2×4, 2 feet in length $1.5 (from Lowes)

    Total cost of supplies: $6.50

    The Steps

Cut the 2×4 into 3 sections: 12 inches, 9 inches, and 5 inches in length.

Mark the width midpoint at the top of each 2×4 (1.75 inches).

Draw a point at the top of each 2×4 using the midpoint mark and a carpenters square to draw two 45 degree angles.

Cut each angle with a miter saw.

Give all of the edges a light sand to remove splinters and rough edges.

Paint the blocks black. You can prime the wood first if desired but I tend to skip this step on crafting projects.

After the paint dries, attach the googly eyes.

Cut the whiskers out of twine and attach with hot glue or glue. I used three pieces of 4 inch twine for each kitty.

Draw little kitty ears using pink or white paint.

That’s it! In less than one hour you have a family of black cats just in time for Halloween.

    Equipment

    • miter saw or miter box with saw
    • hot glue gun or glue
    • pencil
    • measuring tape
    • carpenters square
    • foam paint brush
    • small fine tip paint brush
    • sanding block

    Materials

    • 2 feet 2 x 4 stud
    • black paint
    • pink or white paint
    • twine
    • hot glue sticks
    • googly eyes

    Instructions

    • Cut the 2×4 into three boards that are 12 inches, 9 inches, and 5 inches in length
    • Mark the midpoint of width of each board (1.75 inches on each side).
    • Use a carpenters square to draw a 45 degrees angle from the midpoint (this will form a point at the top of the board).
    • Cut the board along the angled line.
    • Lightly sand all edges.
    • Paint each board black.
    • Attach the googly eyes using hot glue or glue.
    • Cut the whiskers out of twine. Each "cat" will have 3 whiskers that are about 4 inches in length.
    • Attach the whiskers with a dot of hot glue or glue. Be careful if using hot glue as it can burn your fingers!
    • Draw two little cat ears above the googly eyes.
